Psychotherapy as a Path to Change
I work individually with adults, older children and adolescents, as well as with couples and families in psychotherapy. Individual therapy may begin by focusing on experiences such as anxiety, insomnia, feelings of depression, lack of motivation, or behavior problems, but will likely move to addressing underlying needs and fears so that lasting change can occur. Individual and family therapy may include helping you and your family member adjust to life transitions such as a diagnosis of a major illness, a divorce or the loss of a family member, as well as developmental transitions such as the birth of a child, becoming an adolescent or leaving home for the first time. My work with families often involves addressing issues of addiction and co-addiction. In this situation, I usually work individually or conjointly with the partner, parent and/or child of the person who is engaged in addictive behavior while he or she focuses on their sobriety, at least initially. Couples therapy may focus on the more private aspects of adult relationships such as emotional intimacy, sexual problems, or betrayal.
